Rice Law Attorney MaryCatherine Crock attended the Women2Women Spring Luncheon hosted by the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce. With over two hundred attendees, women from all types of careers were able to come together, network, and share their experiences.

This annual seminar had over 20 speakers presenting on various divorce and family law topics to an audience of almost 2,000 family law attorneys and judges. In addition to learning the latest developments in marital and family law, the attendees earned 17 hours of continuing legal education. Chapter 61 of Florida Statutes covers an array of topics that surround parenting issues, to include parental decision making for minor children. Every family and every case has a different set of circumstances but the consistent factor throughout the court’s consideration in a parenting plan is the best interests of the children. When it comes to parental responsibility, the best interests of the child vary from case to case.
Chapter 742.18 of Florida Statutes specifies the requirements for seeking a disestablishment of paternity or a termination of a child support obligation in circumstances wherein the male is not the biological father of the child.
Chapter 751 of Florida Statutes dictates the requirements for legal and temporary custody of a minor child by an extended family member. As reflected in Chapter 751, many minor children live with and are cared for by members of their extended families. However, what happens when that family member needs to take extended care of a minor child?
